Angela Thomas
Author of A Beautiful Offering, Beautiful, Do You Think I’m Beautiful

Where did the inspiration for your books originate?

The Beautiful series came out of a very broken season for me. I had gone through a divorce and I began asking God what He thought of me. In that process, I came to God very raw and very needy. I heard Him speak so clearly in Psalm 45:11, “The King is enthralled with your beauty.” Not only were His words so sweet to me, I realized that it could change my whole life if I began to live like they were true.

How does a mother of four switch gears and have time for writing?

I have tried every imaginable way to get it all done. Mostly I fly by the seat of my pants with the writing always running through my head. But since my baby began kindergarten, I have begun a strict schedule of writing while all the kids are in school, turning all the business off in the carpool line at 3pm. Sometimes when I don’t fall asleep the minute I hit the pillow, I try to read something that will feed my writing the next day. It’s a crazy way to do it, but it’s a privilege just the same.

What are some of your experiences as a national speaker?

I travel and speak to churches all around the country. Most of the time they want me to come and do a Beautiful Conference or event based on the book. I also travel with the teenage girls conference called Girls of Grace and work with the women’s ministry at INJOY.

How did your life change with the Beautiful book line?

I don’t know if my life has changed very much, but the rewards have been great. We have heard from women all over the world whose lives are being changed by the message of Beautiful. It’s a great privilege to tell my stories and journal my walk with God and have it impact the hearts of woman for His renown.

Why do you think it struck such a chord with women across the country?

At first I thought my question to God, Do you think I’m Beautiful? was just a personal question, now I believe it’s one of the most important questions of the feminine soul.

How do you define beauty?

I believe that real beauty is captured in the countenance. Sometimes a woman walks through the door and you know that she knows God is crazy about her. There is a spirit about her that is captivating. She holds her head up and walks with a confidence that sets her apart. I always want to stand beside women like that.

Since many of the experiences in your books are personal, did you find the writing experience to be painful? Or a welcome form of therapy?

My writing has always been so incredibly vulnerable but women tell us that’s the main thing they are drawn to. I don’t want to tell someone else’s story, so the only one I have is mine. Some days it’s painful to tell the truth, other days it’s fun to tell a story in a way I believe will unlock a truth for someone else.

Are you planning on writing more books?

I’ll keep writing as long as they keep asking.

What would you like for people to take away from your books?

In these Beautiful books, I am praying that a woman comes to hear the voice of God call her beautiful and that she’d understand it’s time to begin living like it’s true.

How can people buy your books?

The local bookstore is the best. But they’re also available on all the internet bookstores.

Is there anything else you want to add?

Right now we are working on a video curriculum based on the book A Beautiful Offering. It’s a joint project with LifeWay, Thomas Nelson and CreativeTrust. It’s a huge undertaking but we’re all excited about the release December 2004.
