Author of Soul Tracker

SOUL TRACKER deals with a compelling topic. How did you come up with the story?

Almost all of my ideas come during the 30-60 mins I spend with the Lord in the mornings. I keep a notepad handy and jot them down.

What type of research did you do to gain the knowledge to write this book?

I combined a lot of research from past projects including my interview with the head of the CIA psychic research division, my research of and visits to paranormal psychology labs, first hand experiences on the mission field as a documentary film maker, interviews with David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) once a serial killer now a devout believer in Jesus Christ, as well as a personal experience in taking a top Los Angeles psychic through deliverence.

In your opinion, is it really possible to communicate with the dead?

Absolutely not. All my research indicates they are demonic counterfeits posing as the dead.

With so many psychics and counterfeits out there—people who claim to talk to the dead—how do we know what’s real, fake or satanic? How can we tell the difference?

Nowhere does Scripture give permission for us to contact the dead. In fact it commands us not to. As soon as we try to we are violating God’s law which leaves us wide open to counterfeit. The solution is easy. Don’t.

With your experience extensively interviewing psychics, psychology labs, and even the head of CIA psychic research, what was the most important thing you learned?

It’s amazing how in nearly every psychic encounter, both humans and the “supernatural beings” go out of their way to either lower Jesus Christ’s position as God the Son or raise themselves up to His level. This happened again and again. He becomes the great stumbling block and it is often His Lordship that we can use to prove their deceptions.

What is the most outrageous claim you heard during your research?

Usually claims of being Jesus Christ.

Why do you think so many people are fascinated by psychics and communicating with the dead?

I believe we all have a vacuum in our souls designed to be filled with fellowship with God. When we refuse that fellowship the vacuum and hunger remains and we look for something to fill it.

You once mentioned that you are a “reluctant expert” in this field. Why did you start researching and writing books on this topic?

Initially much of my research came simply through ministering to folks. As time went on I was amazed at how easily people fell for the lies and I wanted to warn and protect them. Then, after McGee and Me, the publisher wanted me to write a teen series to warn teens who are so fascinated by the subject. One thing led to another, one encounter to another and here I am. To be quite honest the subject, itself, bores me because every encounter and every solution always has the same answer. . . Jesus Christ (who, of course, isn’t boring!).

Why do you choose to write novels about paranormal psychology?

It seems to be something I know about and that so many folks are being deceived by. If I thought I could better serve Christ by operating a drill press, I’d be doing that.

Soul TrackerTell us how you manage write on three levels—to entertain, to teach, and to explore spiritual truths—at the same time.

On the surface the books need to be entertaining. That’s like the candy coating, the way I earn the reader’s attention to get the medicine down which is the teaching and the truths. Jesus did the same with His parables (only much better). He would take scriptural truths and warp them up in day to day humanity so people could see those truths in action.
