SUMMER OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN
by Tracie Peterson
Leah Barringer is concerned about her brother, Jacob. He was supposed to have been home weeks ago, but his return is long over due. The villagers are starving. There is no food to be had. Just as she gives up hope, Jacob returns with two sleds full of supplies and Jayce Kincaid, a man Leah has loved for years.
Leah isn’t overjoyed to see Jayce. After all, ten years ago she told him that she loved him, and he laughed in her face. Now Jayce wants to go on as friends, and Leah wants nothing to do with him. At least until Jayce gets between two fighting sled dogs and is badly injured.
Helaina Beecham is an unofficial Pinkerton agent, and she is on the trail of Jayce Kincaid. He is wanted on several counts of theft and murder. When Helaina learns that Jayce in on an expedition in Alaska, she heads north herself, determined to see Jayce hang for his crimes. Will she find Jayce? Is Jayce even guilty of the crimes he’s accused of?
SUMMER OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN is the first book in the Alaskan Quest series. I thoroughly loved this book and think it is one of the best historical books I’ve read by Ms. Peterson so far. There is plenty of action, adventure, and romance included in the pages, guaranteed to keep the reader interested.
Leah is a loveable heroine, and Jayce a wonderful hero, making even the reader’s heart throb. The secondary characters are equally well developed. My interest was caught from the first page, and I couldn’t put this book down. I can’t wait to read the second book in this engaging series. $12.99. 268 pages.
