LIKE DANDELION DUST
by Karen Kingsbur
Jack and Molly Campbell are living the perfect life, happy and in love, their adopted five-year-old son, Joey, is doing great, ahead of his preschool class, happy, and well adjusted. Molly’s sister and best friend, Beth, has recently relocated to the same area, and life couldn’t be better.
Wendy Porter’s husband, Rip, has recently been released from prison, and fearing he’ll hear the news from someone else, Wendy confesses to him that she gave their son up for adoption—the son he never knew existed. And now Rip wants his son back. Since he never signed the adoption papers, his signature was forged, the judge rules in favor of Rip and Wendy getting custody of their son.
Jack and Molly are desperate when they learn that they are going to lose Joey, especially to a man who’s been in prison for domestic violence. Joey’s life is in danger, and they will do anything to keep him safe. Jack conceives a desperate and dangerous thought—what if they take Joey and just disappear…?
LIKE DANDELION DUST is Karen Kingsbury’s most recent book, and it’s a winner. I sympathized with all the characters, even the secondary ones, and felt for Wendy when she made the heart-wrenching decision to give her son up for adoption when he was just hours old, because she loved him so much. I loved the Campbell’s as they raised a happy and well-adjusted boy, even if their life was just too perfect. The story and scenario is perfectly set up, and the faith message expertly woven in.
LIKE DANDELION DUST is a book to be read with a box of tissues nearby as any parent will be able to identify. It was almost heartwrenching as I put my four year old in the place of Joey and wondered how I’d handle this situation. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book, making it ideal for small groups and discussion groups. I highly recommend LIKE DANDELION DUST. This is a Karen Kingsbury book you’ll not want to miss. $12.95. 361 pages.
