At the AltarAt the Altar of Sexual Idolatry
Steve Gallagher

At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year, with a new revised and expanded edition. This book still remains timely in a world that has grown progressively worse in this area. Now more than ever Christian men (and women) have to struggle to avoid the sights and sounds of an immoral society, especially when it glorified by the media every day.

In the revised edition, the author Steve Gallagher points out the astronomical growth of pornography since the advent of the Internet. In addition, satellite and cable television have also made it easier to enslave a victim who has fallen into sin. Once in bondage himself, Gallagher points out the need to accept the problem. He writes a good bit about the type of behaviors a person may display. A deep sense of guilt and paranoia often drive victims caught in the web of pornography away from their family and God.

Gallagher encourages believers to remember their “first love” – the first love being God. Once a person loses this sense of first love in his heart, it becomes easier to become self-entered. With self-centeredness, the heart becomes open and willing to experience with all types of sexual sins.

The last half of this book deals with how to resist sexual temptations after one has acknowledged their problem. Like with any addiction, accepting there is a problem is the beginning of a life long process.

This book is mainly written with an emphasis for men, but the author states this problem affects both genders. Definitely a timely book to share or pass along!
