by Judith Miller
Truth Wyman loves Nicodemus, Kansas. Her family lives in this all black community, and she never wants to leave. Especially once she learns she and her husband are expecting their very first child. It will be born, loved, and raised with all its relatives and family friends beside them every step of the way.
Moses Wyman has gone to the capital of Kansas to try to garner support for the railroad to be run through Nicodemus. When he gets there, the meeting goes so well, that he finds himself nominated for the state office. He’s excited about this and hopes, his wife, Truth, will be too. If he wins he and Truth will need to move to Topeka.
Truth is less than excited about Moses announcement and prays that Moses will not be elected. Her family though is ecstatic. Its about time that a black man is elected to the state office, and if Moses is elected he will be winning against six white men. Will Moses win the election, forcing Truth to leave her home?
DAYLIGHT COMES is the third book in the Freedom’s Path series, but it easily stands alone. Readers will want to read the first two books in the series though, just to see what happened prior. As with the other books in this series, there is actually two stories running simultaneously through the book, the other one is about Nicodemus’s sister community, Hill City.
The characters are well developed and interesting, the faith message is expertly woven in without being preachy, and the setting is an important part of the story. DAYLIGHT COMES is actually bases on real towns and events in historical Kansas, although the characters are from the author’s imagination. You won’t be disappointed by DAYLIGHT COMES.
