Colleen CobleColleen, describe yourself for our visitors.

I adore writing. I can be immersed in my books for ten or twelve hours a day and never notice the time. I’m a computer geek, a new Mac-head as well, recently moving from a PC. Twila Paris music lifts my spirits every time. Once upon a time I crocheted and quilted, but I’m a bit obsessive about my writing and there’s little time for any hobbies. I’ve always got a book in my hand and I read what I write–suspense.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I go for a walk in the cemetery behind my house every morning. Praying as I walk among the headstones is a daily reminder that this life is brief and only things that have an eternal value will last.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

The desire to write was a seed that was planted in grade school, but it lay dormant for many years while I immersed myself in raising our family. When one of my younger brothers was killed by lightning, it was a wake-up call and a reminder that this life is short. If I was ever going to do what I felt God had called me to do, I’d better get on it. It took me a year to write the first book and six more years to sell it. I always say 7 is God’s number so that was just fine. When I heard that Barbour was going to buy my first book, I screamed so loudly the cat hid under the bed and wouldn’t come out for hours! It was the start to my real dream–writing suspense.

ABOMINATION is the first geocaching novel out that I know of. It’s a woman in jeopardy story. A serial killer who leaves his victims at geocaching sites tracks Eve Alexander to Michigan’s U.P. The killer chooses his victim based on Proverbs 6–the seven things God considers an abomination.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

I’d read an article about geocaching and thought it would make a super idea for a book. Reading in Proverbs one morning, chapter six jumped out at me and connected with the idea of a serial killer who used that verse. It appealed to me because any of us could be convicted of sin if someone looked hard enough and long enough of our lives.

What’s next for you?

My next book out of the gate will be an Amish thriller called ANATHEMA. I just turned it in to my editor, and it was so fun and interesting to write! Immersing myself in Amish culture was nearly enough to make be want to become one.
