CarrieTuransky Carrie, describe yourself for our visitors.

My husband Scott and I have been married for 29 years, and we have five great kids, a beautiful daughter-in-law, and two adorable grandsons. I often travel with him when he speaks around the country giving parenting seminars. We partner in ministry at a growing church we helped plant ten years ago here in New Jersey. I enjoy overseeing women’s ministry, mentoring younger women, and teaching women’s Bible studies.

When I am not writing, you may find me gardening, reading, cooking, or walking around the lake near our home. I enjoy listening to our local Christian radio station in New York City. They play a variety of worship and contemporary Christian music. We homeschooled our children for many years, and now that they are older, it’s great to have more time for writing, friendships, and ministry. Our whole family lived in Kenya for one year where we were missionaries. That was a wonderful experience that opened our eyes and hearts to what God is doing all around the world.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I am blessed to be at the stage of life where my kids are launched, so I have time to spend with the Lord each day. I love to go outside in my yard when the weather is nice and meet with Him there. Also while I am walking is a great time to connect with Him and pray. I am usually leading or involved in a Bible study, so that also adds motivation and accountability to be in the Word digging out truth for myself and to share with others.

Do you have a Christmas tradition you wish to share?

We have collected Christmas ornaments from many different places over the years. Our family enjoys unwrapping them each year and decorating our Christmas tree. We talk about the places we have traveled and enjoy sharing these special memories together. Serving popcorn and hot cocoa are part of the tradition too.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

I have been writing fiction for about ten years. I joined American Christian Fiction Writers in 2000, and that has helped me hone my skills and make some great connections. I entered several contests and placed and won a few including ACFW Genesis Contest in the women’s fiction category. I met my agent through ACFW and also my coauthors for my first book, WEDDED BLISS that was published by Barbour in 2005. Since then I’ve had one novel with Steeple Hill Love Inspired and two more novellas with Barbour. My newest is "Moonlight & Mistletoe" in A BIG APPLE CHRISTMAS which came out in September this year.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

I love to read….so here are some of my current favorite books and authors: Off the Record or any books by Elizabeth White, A Bigger Life by Annette Smith, A Nest of Sparrows and Beneath a Southern Sky by Deb Raney, Coldwater Revival by Nancy Jo Jenkins, In Search of Eden or any books by Linda Nichols, William Henry is a Fine Name by Cathy Gohlke, A Garden in Paris and A Hilltop in Tuscany by Stephanie Grace Whitson, Miss Invisible by Laura Jensen Walker, Jan Karon’s Mitford Series.

bigapplechristmas Tell us about your current book.

A BIG APPLE CHRISTMAS is a Four-in-one contemporary inspirational romance collection. Each novella takes place in New York City during the holiday season. In  my novella, "Moonlight & Mistletoe" Christmas plans are set askew when schedule-bound professional organizer Sarah Montgomery meets free-spirited children’s poet Justin Latimer. As they work together on a project for her neighbor, romantic sparks fly – but new revelations threaten to douse them.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

I love stories that bring characters together who are very different from each other, so the idea of matching a professional organizer and a free-spirited poet intrigued me. NYC is a wonderful place to visit at Christmas time, and I thought setting our story there would be enjoyable for our readers.
