The Courtship
by Gilbert Morris

This is the fourth book in "The Singing River Series" which recounts the life of Lanie Freeman and her family. She has been taking care of her younger brothers and sisters for several years because her mother died in childbirth while having Corliss. Her father was falsely accused of murder and is doing his time in prison. In this book, Maeva is traveling on the west coast with her friend Logan to find the only witness to the shooting, who could clear their father.

The book is rightly titled "The Courtship" because there are three men in Lanie’s life who are in love with her.  She’s rebuffed all attention because even though Aunt Kezia is their legal guardian, Lanie has the responsibility of providing for the family and keeping them together. She can have no thoughts of her own happiness until their father is back home with them.

It’s also rightly titled "The Courtship" because another key character in the book has a woman who tells him that God sent him to her to be her husband when she sees him for the first time.

I’ve read all four books now and would highly recommend them. I’ve had to wait for each new one to come out and it’s been hard. I’ve grown to love Lanie and I want to know what’s going to happen in her life. I also like the way the author works in the details of daily life into the story. You get a flavor of what it was like to make meals, do laundry, make enough money to put food on the table, etc.

This book is good for all ages and really teaches what "family" is all about.
