Rachel, describe yourself for our visitors.
Thanks for having me. It’s a pleasure. Let’s see, besides writing, I’m the worship leader at my church, and a worship and prayer leader for a mutli-church gathering in our city.
I love animals, especially dogs. I love French fries and cake. I love college football and when I’m not pressed on a deadline, I love to work out.
I’m a wife, but not a mom. My husband is my best friend. I love all kinds of music, but am partial to country and really deep worship music.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I make time. If not, even with good intentions, it won’t happen. I’m not perfect at it, but I really try to set aside time.
Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
I love a lot of authors. Susan May Warren is a good friend and one of my favorites. I love warm stories with underlying meanings.
Tell us about your journey to publication.
I wrote a long WW2 novel in the mid-’90s then took time off for my corporate career. In the early 2000′s, I met a writer at a conference and she worked with me to publish my first book, a romance with Heartsong.
I met another great writer who encourage me and introduced me to my agent and editor, and in 2004, I left the corporate world to write full time.
It’s really been a God journey. He’s opened the doors. I did not want to waste time writing if it was not what He’d called me to do. He answered my petition!
Tell us about your current book?
Sweet Caroline is set in the South Carolina lowcountry, in the lovely city of Beaufort. Caroline is a bit of a wounded bird, but she’s self aware and self confident in ways that are surprising.
She inherits a cafe when the owner dies. It’s in bad shape and she has no money to fix it. Meanwhile a friend opens an amazing international job for Caroline, and two men vie for her attention. It’s a really wonderful story and has a great spiritual element.
How did you come up with ideas for this book?
This idea morphed from a story idea about a woman hosting a cooking show, but she couldn’t cook! I realized the career didn’t fit my setting, so I made modifications. Many times. I just keep writing until the story comes alive.

What’s next for you?
My second lowcountry book, Love Starts With Elle. She’s Caroline’s friend and on track to fall in love. This story is pretty much straight romance and a lot of intriguing threads.
