Lynette, describe yourself for our visitors.
I spend so much time writing, it’s a real treat to take a break and do something fun. I read a lot, usually in the same genre that I write, but I love chick lit, too. I enjoy scrapbooking, ice skating, shopping, going to the movies, going to the theater and watching plays. My husband is involved in ministry. He is the Vice President of Outreach for The Sound of Light/Xtreme Talk Live Ministries based in Nashville, TN.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I often have to either get up early or stay up late. When my kids are occupied and I don’t have any distractions. Some days, it’s sitting in my car and just saying, “Hey, God, I love you, I miss you, let’s get together soon.” Often, the time to do so will miraculously happen. My kids will be invited over to a friend’s house, or my mother-in-law will come by and pick them up. Or just something, then God and I can grab some time together.
Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
I adore Dee Henderson for many reasons. Yes, she’s a fabulous author, but I contribute so much of my growth as a writer to her patient tutelage that I have to list her as number one on my list. Brandilyn Collins runs a close second. Brandilyn has a fantastic website with so much writing advice, it’s a great tool. I also love her stories. She’s also a master marketer. Really knows how to get her books into people’s hands. A great lady and an awesome prayer warrior.
Tell us about your journey to publication.
I started writing about 10 years ago. My daughter was just about six months old and I was a stay-at-home-mom. I loved it, but I also found it a bit boring. I was used to working and yes, she was an active little girl, but I still found myself with time on my hands. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved the written word. So, I started pounding out a story on my ancient laptop. Eight years later, I was at work and normally don’t have my cell phone turned on, but my son wasn’t feeling well when I dropped him at school that morning, so I left it on in case the school called. When it rang, I figured it was about him. Then I saw the 212 area code and just flipped. I KNEW it was New York calling. And I could think of only reason anyone in New York would be calling me.
Fortunately, I had an assistant in the class, so was able to run out and take the call. It was Krista Stroever, editor for Steeple Hill, saying they wanted to buy my book. I wanted to scream, but didn’t figure that would come across as very professional, so managed to hold it in until we hung up. Then I squealed my way all the way back to class. Fortunately, I work with deaf students, so no one knew what a racket I was making…ha.
Tell us about your current book?
My current book is the second in the series called RIVER OF SECRETS. It’s about a couple of characters from the first book, LETHAL DECEPTION, who wind up in their own adventure and have to figure out who’s trying to kill them.
How did you come up with ideas for this book?
You know, with this book, I didn’t have an “ah-ha” moment. I just sat at the computer and thought. Seriously. Nothing sparked the idea, like from watching a movie or reading the newspaper. I just sat and thought about it. How can I make the situation worse, what would I do in her situation, etc. Of course, I had to keep everything in line with what was in the first book, so I had a few parameters I had to stay between while figuring out the story, but other than that, it’s pure imagination.

What’s next for you?
I have another series coming out with Steeple Hill Suspense in 2009. I’m also working on a series I just sold to Revell. It will be out in 2010.
