image Michelle, describe yourself for our visitors.

I’ve always been a reader and into crafts and singing. I’ve made a ton of blankets and cross-stitch pictures over the years. My latest hobby has been writing fiction since 2003. When I started writing like crazy most of my other hobbies were squeezed out do to time constraints. I love edgy music (no surprise) and singing on the worship team at church. I have a chocolate addiction and enjoy reading by the fireplace in winter.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I try to connect first thing in the morning but it’s harder to do in the winter because it’s dark out. I tend to sleep as long as possible and then I’m running to get out the door. I participate in a women’s Bible study and try to read a devotional and some Scripture every day. Our family does a Bible study together once a week.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

That’s an impossible question to answer as I have so many authors and novels I love. I’m seriously thinking about posting a list of the best books I’ve read (like top ten) at the end of every year so people can see what I enjoyed most.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

I wrote my first book in about three months. It was titled "For the Love of James." I had no idea how to write but enjoyed doing it anyway. I wrote two more books before I contacted a publisher. They recommended I join a writer’s group so I joined ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers). I attended every conference since joining (Denver, Nashville, Dallas, Dallas.) I met my agent in Denver and signed on with her the following year. I continued to write and submit hoping something would stick. It finally did (obviously.)

Tell us about your current book?

imageIt’s a young adult story about a girl who just graduated from high school. She has a near-perfect life and a steady boyfriend. One night something terrible happens and her world is destroyed as she once knew it. Her boyfriend is devastated by what happened and avoids her so his older brother steps in to befriend and comfort her in his place. There is a continuing battle between the brothers for her heart from that point on. She learns a lot about herself, about love, and about faith during the recovery process.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

A friend of mine had the same experience and it was so unique and horrible I thought it would make for an interesting plot element. My friend has since moved so I don’t know how to reach her. Maybe she’ll see my book and find me that way.

What‘s next for you?

If I do well enough in sales with this book I’m hoping the publisher will purchase the next two books in the series, especially since they are already written.
