Larry Larry, describe yourself for our visitors.

I’m a family man. I’ve been married to my best friend Marie for forty-one years, and we live just outside Memphis, TN. We have three daughters and eleven amazing creative grandchildren. We tried being empty-nesters, but we didn’t like it. We were used to having a houseful of noisy, happy children having fun. Now that our daughter Jennifer and her four children live with us, our lives are back to normal. Being around these kids makes us feel like kids again. We are a homeschooling family, and we enjoy looking at the world through their eyes and sharing their sense of wonder.

How do you find time to connect with God?

When I read an author’s work, I feel like I know him. This is especially true of God as the Author of the Bible. When I was researching The Bible Believer’s Handbook, I spent so much time with him in his word, that I fell in love with him. I can tell that he lives in me, and I enjoy his companionship, and talking to him in short bursts throughout the day.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

My favorite authors are those who show connect the Bible to our everyday lives. I enjoyed reading Jan Karon’s Mitford series so much that I want to live in Mitford. I like reading books by Joel Rosenberg.
I read the Bible a lot. But I enjoy books on American History, like The Civil War by Shelby Foote and John Adams by David McCullough. My favorite book is the one I’m reading now, and presently that is God’s General’s, The Revivalists, by Roberts Liardon. It is a history of Christianity in America.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

I wanted to write a book that explains basic concepts of the Christian faith for those who are new to them—like the New Birth and The Love Commandment. I wanted my children and grandchildren to have a book that would equip them to live victorious Christian lives. When I finished the Bible Believer’s Handbook and presented it to my children, I told them, "This is what I’ve learned in my first sixty years of life. Take it and apply it to your life. I can hardly wait to see what you’re going to do with it."

I asked God to help me find a publisher. I told him that I wanted him to choose the publisher that was best for me. Since he knew who that was,  would he please have that publisher contact me. That is how I would identify the one that God had sent.  I had put an ad for my manuscript in a catalog for a Christian publishers, but I had no response to it until I made that prayer. To make a long story short,  I received a call directly from Tom Horn, the CEO of Anomalos Publishing,  They published The Bible Believer’s Handbook in July of 2008.  I thank God everyday for answering my prayer and making me a published author.

Nothing can compare to the beauty of God’s word. I enjoy writing about the Bible and teaching people how to apply it to their lives. The Bible Believer’s Handbook is a book with a mission, to help fulfill the Great Commission. It contains more than eleven hundred direct quotations from the Bible with a brief explanation of each one. These verses reveal the heart and mind of God, and what he has said on a hundred and eighty topics.  It is a buffet of spiritual food for everyone who hungers and thirsts for the knowledge of God.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

God provided all of the ideas for the book. All I did was to gather them together and organize them. I wanted to teach the Bible to my children. I’ve found that the most effective way to do that was to go through the Bible, collect all the verses they needed to know, and make them easy to access and easy to understand.

What’s next for you?

The Bible Believer’s Handbook is my first published book. I am working on my second book and expect to have it finished by the first of May, 2009.
