djpDonald, describe yourself for our visitors.

Before I starting writing I had some hobbies. Now I mostly fantasize about them in my books. I love to play tennis, jog, hike, watch college football, read, talk about deep subjects, cycle long distances (30 miles), fish, sing in a choir, act in dramas, participate in organizations such as Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, etc, and donate blood.

How do you find time to connect with God?

That’s a tough one. I try to assassinate two avians with a single rock by praying while I exercise, listening to worship music while I work, etcetera. I do need to spend more quality time alone just communing with God.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

If I had the time and didn’t think it was socially and morally irresponsible I’d read all of my waking hours. I love reading anything that has redeeming social value. I was a history major and loved historical fiction though I also enjoyed westerns, sci-fi, detective, etc. Now as a mature adult, I’ve recently discovered a wealth of talent in the Christian world and love Trish Perry, Terry Burns, Julie Lessman, Tosca Lee, George MacDonald, Grace Livingstone Hill, Janette Oke, and others.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

In studying the publication process, I came up with the conclusion that publishers are interested in the almighty dollar and that getting a book to market takes considerable time. Because I felt that my book needed to be on the streets yesterday, I opted to go with a subsidy publisher for my first thrust into the public market. While at a writer’s conference several months later, I came face to face with the realization that my material is probably never going to fly with the mainstream.

Faced with the facts, I decided to bite the bullet and form my own publishing company. Thus Sword of the Spirit Publishing was birthed. I hope someday SOSP will be a champion for authors called by God to write prophetic words that a lukewarm church doesn’t want to hear and lukewarm publishers don’t want to take a financial chance on. My goal in life, which I firmly believe God planted, is to be a John the Baptist. Writing is my ministry and my mission. I’m not in the game to obtain fame or fortune.

StillnessCoverStandard200 Tell us about your current book.

All the Stillness of the Wind is a sequel (actually book four in a series of five) to All the Voices of the Wind, a book where a young atheist studies the weaknesses of Darwin’s theory of evolution. After arriving at the conclusion that there must be a designer for this miracle we call life, the young man makes the pledge to study religion with the same fervor to discover if he can find the truth dealing with that creator of life and learn what kind of expectations such a creator would have of him.

What’s next for you?

I’m working on a novel about teens dealing with sexual pressures, including abortion and another dealing with homeless people.
