Elisabeth, describe yourself for our visitors.
I live with my husband, Kevin, and middle-school children, Sara and Jack, in Illinois . I am the author of He Is Just That Into You, a collection of essays about God’s faithfulness and love; the devotionals, In Search of Calm and Calm in My Chaos; and the monthly column, “Moments for Mom”. I am on the Advisory Team of MOPS’ MomSense magazine. After ten years of leading Women’s Ministry and four years on staff at Christ Community Church , I now devote my time to speaking and writing, along with my passions of social justice and AIDS, which I engage in through my connections with Open Door Clinic and my church’s partnerships in Africa.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I try to spend time with God every morning, but also have a running conversation with Jesus throughout my day.
Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?
My most recent favorite verse is Zephaniah 3:17 which says, “The Lord your God is with you; He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” It just does something for my soul to hear those words.
Tell us about your current book.
He Is Just That Into You is a collection of essays about God’s love and faithfulness. Worldly love can come and go, ebb and flow; male-female relationships, even committed, healthy, married ones, will go through rocky times, and can leave you feeling all alone. But there is a Love that will not let you down, that will not walk away, that will not find someone else more appealing, that will be a part of your everyday life, and will have no problem laying His life down for you, loving you fully for the rest of your days.
What influenced you to write this book?
I was going through a difficult time, and to heal me, God started reminding me of ways that He had been there for me over the past twenty or so years of following Him. It just sort of poured out of me.
What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
That they’re not alone. That they are loved even when they feel they aren’t, even when they feel they don’t deserve to be. I want my stories to remind others of how God has worked in their lives and shown them His love.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on a new book, trying my hand at fiction. I continue to speak and write, and I’m trying to figure out my next international travel adventure!
